Welcome to the table of reminiscence...

We've been amazed and delighted at how people have contacted us since the beginning of this project, with their own memories of what the sound of bells means to them. Often it's family stories, either remembering a particular person, or a specific event in family history. Have a look at some of the reminiscences shared here, and get in touch with any comments, or to share your own.

Karen writes:  I was lucky enough to witness newly refurbished bells being reinstalled at St Nicholas Church, Guildford, 2013. They celebrated my Great Aunt Lucy nee Mortley who apparently was one of the first female bell ringers in the country, also her husband Charles, and their niece Yvonne Eloie who rang the bells for years, including on her 90th birthday.... As a child I didn’t understand, only later I realised the teamwork that was taking place!

Susanna writes: Fabulous project. I grew up with a father who was just a tad obsessed about this theme and wrote this book, Bells in England, about them in 1954. Cannot hear church bells without thinking of him !
